Johannesburg-born singer Tyla has been making waves worldwide with her single Water, which entered the charts in 17 different countries including reaching the top 10 of the UK Singles Chart. She is also the youngest South African and the first South African soloist in 55 years to enter the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, following Hugh Masekela’s Grazing in the Grass in 1968. Water’s accompanying music video, released early this month, garnered 3 million views on YouTube in just three days.
“Amapiano means ‘The pianos’, a reference to the lounge keys usually weaved into its skipping four-to-the-floor rhythms. Tyla… is a master of taking its glossiest elements and imbuing them with the sensuality of American R&B”

Her blend of Afrobeats, Amapiano, pop and R&B has captured worldwide attention and that of Epic Records, with whom she signed a recording contract through a joint venture with Fax Records in the US.
