Creating an abundance mindset will help you make more money than you ever imagined.
It’s true that in the online space, there are many people who say that they can help you make an extra €10K this year. They may not be wrong; however, the key to making more money lies in your perspective around earning that type of money.
Mindset coaching is a non-tangible entity, which means that it looks at your internal beliefs, mental blocks and behaviours around money. Once people gain clarity about what is stopping them from earning more money, they begin to rewrite their money story. This transformation enables them to stop doubting themselves or fearing rejection by others. They also learn how to detach themselves from their business. Money is simply a vehicle to help you reach your goals. The secret lies in knowing which part is transformational vs. transactional.
As women we face many external barriers, challenges and hurdles in our lives. The patriarchal system insists that we shouldn’t own a business but rather focus on raising our children and loved ones. As a marginalised group, we don’t have access to funding opportunities or resources to help us build our business. Neither do we have the support from our family or friends who tell us that we should ‘get a day job’.
With women holding only about 25% of top jobs, the competition is fierce. Sadly this often involves back-biting, gas lighting, bullying and backstabbing from women themselves. A scarcity of mentorship hampers women’s progress towards business and financial goals.
But, unknown to us, the internal blocks and beliefs are what contributes to holding women themselves back even more than the external barriers. We are known to stand in our own way and that’s because our mind wants to keep us safe. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent over three decades working with survivors. In his book, The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.
If one hasn’t gone through the process of releasing that trauma, it will keep repeating itself in our lives. It will continue to hold us back without us even realising it.
To expand on this – women are nurturers and we tend to put our children, loved ones, parents, friends etc needs above our own. If we’ve grown up in a household where our parents argued continuously about money which was also in short supply, this will have a profound impact on us today. We will wear the same dress for as long as possible and will go without so that others can have more than us. We will also work at keeping the peace in the home or at work and will agree with everything that’s said.
We will avoid conflict at all costs and this is evident when we connect with people in the online space. We refrain from showing up consistently on social media, tone down our opinions in our posts or say nothing at all.
We are people pleasers and want to be liked by everyone so we will ‘go with the flow’ or follow the crowd. We will avoid being rejected at all costs and so we don’t share our services or products. We also seek external validation and will follow what the ‘gurus’ tell us without thinking about what we actually want or desire. We don’t want to be seen as a failure in our business and neither do we want to be judged by our family, friends or colleagues.
As you can see from the above examples, keeping safe, unseen and invisible is a form of protection but it won’t help us grow our business exponentially. Please note that there is absolutely nothing wrong if you feel this way. Your behaviours, thoughts and beliefs are based on your childhood experiences and have impacted how you view yourself and the world around you.
The difference is that you are reading this today for a very good reason! It is time for you to make the mindset shifts and transform your life. Increasing your prices for your services or products will become easier as you will focus on the value you are offering your prospective clients.
Here are five tips to help you regarding your money story:
- Have clarity of your vision and goals for the next twelve months.
- Identify your personal beliefs about money. Are they rooted in a scarcity mindset or an abundance mindset? Work on reframing any negative beliefs into positive affirmations about wealth and prosperity.
- Refrain from focusing on making a sale and instead think about the value you can offer your clients.
- Detach being emotionally involved with money as it is a vehicle to help you reach your goals.
- Identify the top 3 revenue-generating aspects of your business and focus on optimising them. Simultaneously, recognise the least productive areas and brainstorm ways to improve or eliminate them.
Isn’t that priceless?
By transforming your beliefs, behaviours and habits about money, you’ll not only increase your income potential but also gain confidence and freedom from financial stress.
