Marrakech to Merzouga itinerary overview
After leaving Marrakech the travellers on this three-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga will visit Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, and the Kasbahs in between these two spots and the desert of Merzouga. Then, they will spend the night in the desert before we head back to Marrakech.
Day 1
MARRAKECH – ATLAS MOUNTAINS – KASBAH AIT BEN HADOU – DADES VALLEY
After a satisfying breakfast early in the morning, we will depart on our three-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga. From the ‘Red City’ Marrakech, we will travel through the stunning landscapes of Tizi n’Tichka and see the many Berber villages where people live a very simple lifestyle. We will stop to marvel at the UNESCO world heritage site Ait Ben Haddou, which is also a famous film site that many famous Hollywood movies have shot their scenes at; movies such as the Mummy, Gladiator, and Lawrence of Arabia. After an excellent lunch, we will go to Ouarzazate, also known as a gateway to the Sahara Desert, a city south of Morocco’s High Atlas mountains. There, we will visit the Kasbah of Taourirt and Skoura Oasis. Then, we will head to Dades Valley through the ‘road of a thousand Kasbah’, after visiting Kalaat Mgouna, the Valley of the Roses. At Dades, we will spend the night at a charming hotel.
Day 2
DADES VALLEY – TINGHIR – MERZOUGA – SAHARA DESERT – ERG CHABBI
After a delicious breakfast at Dades, we will head to Toudra Gorges, which has the biggest canyons in Morocco along with a beautiful river that has small fish swimming in it; there we will spend some time walking beside the river. After that, we will drive past Tinghir to Erfoud where we will enjoy a fabulous, traditional lunch. Our next stop will be Merzouga.
After taking some rest and leaving our unnecessary luggage at the hotel, we will take a camel ride to the dunes of Erg Chebbi, where a camp is situated. At the camp, we will have dinner while listening to the trance-inducing drumbeats of the nomad musicians under the clear constellations of stars. There’s nothing on earth more heavenly.
Day 3
MERZOUGA – DRAA VALLEY – OUARZAZATE – ATLAS MOUNTAINS – MARRAKECH
We will wake up early to see the fascinating colours of the sunrise over the dunes. Then, we will drive to Draa Valley. We will drive along Saghro Mountain past Tazzarine and Nkoub. After lunch, we will continue to Draa Valley to explore the oases, the villages, and the Kasbahs before returning to Marrakech through the road of the high Atlas Mountains to end your wonderful three-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga.
